If you have come to this blog, it’s because you are interested in having a space where well-being, balance, harmony and order are present. If you don't know what holistic design is, I invite you first to read our article on this blog “Build your happiness from a holistic design”. If you have already read it, continue on this blog because I am going to give you several tips where you will learn to apply holistic design in any space.
Tip #1: Introduce basic elements to improve your physical health
Improve indoor air quality with an air cleaning system or humidifier. Plants, on the other hand (unlike humans), inhale carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen. This helps purify the air giving a calming and energizing effect in the spaces. Of course, if you are going to place a plant inside a space, it must be an indoor plant and that it can adapt to that place you want to place it.
Tip #2: Use natural and sustainable materials
By using natural and sustainable materials, you manage to connect in a deeper way with nature. There are many materials that can be adapted to the style you are working on. Some examples can be wood, marble, stone and natural fabrics.
For some reason, it may be difficult to use these natural materials, so now many companies have committed to creating materials that are eco-friendly and even have a similarity to these natural finishes. Also, they can be used to not only leave a positive green footprint, but also for efficient, aesthetic and well-being spaces.
Tip #3: Feng Shui Principles
Feng Shui literally means "wind-water". It is an ancient Chinese art that aims to use energy forces, or chi, to achieve better harmony with the environment.
It is possible to decorate a house using Feng Shui to improve its good flow of energy, while creating a balanced and more comfortable environment. Elements of nature are used, transferred to materials. In addition, the way of orienting and the type of elements in the space are taken into account. Also, create a balance between masculine and feminine energy.
In general, Feng Shui seeks harmony and balance through its principles where clean, more energetic and stable spaces are created.
Later I will deepen this topic with a Feng Shui expert and adviser.
Tip #4: Color psychology
Using color in favor of the function of the space is key to feeling how we want to feel in that place. For example, the color blue reflects tranquility and calm. Red accents work great in spaces where we want to be active or socialize. Earth tones work very well in the kitchen and influence digestive function. Green tones create a feeling of calm and freshness.
If you want to read more in detail about the psychology of each color, I invite you to go to our Instagram and search our color highlight for the publication on Color Psychology.
Tip #5: Let natural light in
One of the main elements to create a holistic space is the most economical, easy and beautiful element, sunlight.
Natural light creates lively and healthy spaces. Windows, glass doors, skylights are the best gift you can give to your physical and mental health.
Also, natural light plays a very important role where we can take advantage of it to create textures and environments at different times of the day.
Tip #6: Aromatherapy
The sense of smell is which we can remember and detect approximately 10,000 different scents. The aromas can be used in favor of the function of each space. If it is an aroma to relax, we can use lavender or if it is a space to be active, we can use mint or orange.
Also, candles play a super important role in spaces. We can just turn them on, create a cozy atmosphere with the aroma of your choice. For me, our chai-scented Mind & Light candle is my favorite by far.
These are just 6 tips that you can apply in your spaces to live fully and realize the positive impact it can have on your lifestyle.
As always, I write from the heart and to leave that positive mark on you who are reading this blog.
A hug,
Nela.
